norton November 8, 2008 this product is better than i expected it to be and love it and the company that makes it thank you very much
norton November 4, 2008 WARNING to anyone thinking about buying this product! Please understand that you will not be buying this product only RENTING it. If you do not renew every year the product stops working....COMPLETELY! I'm not just talking about updates, etc. It actually tells you that it has stopped working and it won't work unless you renew. I have just wasted more than 2 hours with Norton's online tech support. This is the case with ALL Norton products and I am quoting the tech.
WILL NOT STOP "ANTISPYWARE XP 2008" VIRUS November 4, 2008 I got the "antispyware XP 2008" virus with this software installed & working properly. I have had Norton AV installed for over 4 years now (automatic renewal). I downloaded NOTHING to get this virus. I consider myself very computer competent & was "surfing the net" when the Norton pop-up "detected a worm & had to close..." Next thing I know my Norton was disabled & I couldn't even reach tech support from that computer. My browser was hijacked, I could only visit certain websites, the rest were "not found". I set up a "chat" with Norton tech support from my OTHER computer & waited 4 hours for someone from a 3rd world country to tell me they would fix it.. FOR $99 DOLLARS!!!! WHAT???? He explained that they are not part of Norton, but a separate I.T. support dept. THAT'S LIKE SELLING ME CAR INS., THEN JUST GIVING ME A PHONE # FOR A BODY SHOP WHEN I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT!!! I needed that computer so after a few choice words, I reluctantly agreed. They gave me a website to go to, which, you guessed it, I COULD NOT ACCESS FROM THE INFECTED COMPUTER. "Sorry, can't help you if you can't get to that address". I'M DONE WITH SYMANTEC. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. NO FREE SUPPORT OR REFUND IF THEIR PRODUCT DOES NOT DO WHAT THEY CLAIM IT WILL? FALSE ADVERTISING! WASTE OF MONEY. Tried emailing Symantec directly with the same result. "Sorry Charlie". Try McAfee or someone else. I can't remember the last time I felt so misled & ripped off
Didn't work with NAS November 3, 2008 After installing NAV08 I wasn't able to open files on a NAS (network attached storage) device. The documentation was too brief to be of use (offered little more info than the interface). The settings didn't allow for the necessary fine-tuning. The chat support was extremely slow. After turning off NAV's antivirus and worm protection and finding the problem still present, the tech determined that the problem was with Microsoft. I doubted that as I've been accessing files on the NAS for years prior to installation and immediately after installing NAV08 the problem occurred. Immediately after uninstalling NAV08 the problem was resolved. I left it uninstalled and downloaded Spyware Doctor with AV instead. It is working fine and I am able to open files on the NAS.
I have other problems with previous versions of Norton. This was my last straw. I will not be buying any more Norton products. By the way, Spyware Doctor found and removed 217 minor threats that my old Norton Corporate edition had missed and which the new NAV08 had missed on its full system scan.

Used Norton Utilities a couple of times in the early and mid 80's. Messed up the computer both times and had to get rid of the software.
Tried Norton products again in the mid 90's. Messed up the computer. Very annoying to use. Got rid of the software.
Several months ago changed to ATT U-verse highspeed internet. A month or two later decided to download the Norton Antivirus that comes with the account, hoping their products might have changed. Now many lockups on IE browser.
