5 out of 5 stars Wish i had this when i was a kid!   November 19, 2008
Jumpstart World is one of those games for kids that make me remember back to my childhood. I'm a big videogame player and growing up i recall playing learning games in school like Math Blaster, or Oregon Trail. I got the chance to demo JumpStart World and wow, i'm just blown away. Educational games for kids have come such a long way from when i was in school playing them. Theres just so much content for kids to tackle, math, spelling, arts and crafts, owning pets, and just exploring the world. I think that's the best part about this game- it's that it finds a way to make it all FUN. I really do wish i was lucky to have played this growing up, and i highly recommend it for kids who are excited about learning!

5 out of 5 stars The best educational game.   November 17, 2008
I can not say enough wonderful things about jumpstart. I home schooled my kids for kindergarten so I bought them this to help out and make learning fun. They LOVE it!
They don't even know they are learning. It is fabulous. If you have dial up you will need to get the off line version which works just as well! My daughters look forward to getting their super gem and earning those keys. It's a big event in our household. I would recommend this to anyone. My girls are now in first grade and still come home from school eager to play! You must buy this!

1 out of 5 stars Waste of time   November 13, 2008
My 5 yo daughter and I are both dissapointed. We've tried installing this game on 4 different computers, and even had our neighbors try, and it just keeps shutting down. I'm surprised a product like this came from Jump Start.

1 out of 5 stars DIRTY! and caused a huge fight! DONT BUY!   November 12, 2008

The box makes the game sound like you have unlimited access and that is partially true. You have access for only the first two lessons! True your child can continually play the same mundane games over and over, but all messages to your child are to keep going. My daughter was heartbroken when I told her that I was not going to keep paying a monthly fee.
You are basically paying a premium price for a TRIAL. It's dirty and I will not buy anymore Jumpstart games.
Buyer beware.

1 out of 5 stars Couldn't install on Vista64   August 10, 2008

I was not able to install this software on Vista-64. The box also does not make it clear about having to register personal information online just to install the software. A subscription is not clear on the outside of the box, and I'm still not sure whether the monthly payment is absolutely required. I couldn't find anything on the box about even requiring a monthly payment. On Vista-64 at the beginning of installation, the installation software opened an Internet Explorer box to register (which the software says is needed for tracking your child's progress). Why can't they just track the progress on my computer??? Most software doesn't open a web browser, and this step is obviously fraught with problems.

After registering through the web browser, the installation software failed to install. The company's website describes this problem and says to download a file called JSWorldRegIniPatch to fix this problem. I downloaded that file, ran it, and tried to reinstall. After registering again, the software would still not install. I went through this about 10 frustrating times and gave up. There aren't many places to deviate from the installation/registration path, so this points to software that isn't correctly designed and correctly tested.

After this frustrating experience, I tried returning this broken software to the store where I bought it, and they said the best they could do was to replace it with the exact same software... A lot of good that would do. The store finally agreed to a store credit after they couldn't install it either. Anyway, this may work fine on 32-bit Vista, but wouldn't even install on my PC. The fault of this broken software complete lies with the company who created it. It is not hard to create software that installs correctly, but for whatever reason, this company decided that it would be best to intrusively gather information about its customers and to charge a monthly fee. In trying to implement these unfriendly policies, they created software that won't even install.
