Amazing Speech Recognition Software December 5, 2008 Overall, I am very impressed with this software. Installation was smooth. I had previously used the speech recognition installed in Windows Vista and found it to get around 95% recognition accuracy when dictating. Although that was pretty good, I wanted something that I could rely on to correctly dictate papers for school with. I found that in Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I've had this product for three days, and I get 98% recognition accuracy while dictating. I use a Microsoft Life Chat LX-3000. It gets a sound to noise ratio of 22. Dictation is input quickly not to mention accurately. I absolutely love the natural commands in Microsoft Word. At first, I had a little bit of trouble with having my works recognized incorrectly. I then found that the accent settings were set on Australian American. It turned out that in the settings it was set as adult instead of teen. Now it works very well. Here are my computer specs:
Dell Inspiron 1525
Intel Pentium dual core processor (1.6 GHz)
high-definition audio 5.0
3 GB of RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Hope this helps.
Forget Windows Vista Loading December 3, 2008 Spent over two days trying to load this soft ware on an HP Portable with Windows Vista. Could not get it to initialize. Moved over to an HP Desktop with Windows XP and it loaded immediately and ran. Still in the process of training it before any attempt at extended use. Would have preferred to install on the portable, but with the investment, I'll take anything that will run it. Very disappointed by the installation issues. If you buy this software, be prepared for a problem of some type.
Big improvement December 2, 2008 What a change from version 7.0. we recently updated and found 10 to be so much faster and accurate. It's amazing, really. And using Vista wasn't a problem.
Not Practical November 30, 2008 1) Today we need web functionality such as this comment box. Duh!
2) At this late date, common names in everyday usage, and words one would find in a dictionary are all sooo easy to access, it is ridiculous the program can't recognize them.
The market needs competition. Look elsewhere if you have an educated vocabulary or work online.
Won't Work With 64-bit Vista... November 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was all excited to give this product a try only to find that I couldn't even load it on my new Toshiba laptop with the Vista operating system.I tried twice to load it onto my laptop without success. After going to the manufacturer's (Nuance) website, I found out that the program is not compatible with 64-bit operating systems...
Are you kidding me??!!??
This was supposed to be the most recent version of this software. After reading the system requirements printed on the box more closely, I noticed that it does say that the 32-bit Vista operating system was supported. Well for those of us who aren't computer experts, it'd be nice if the manufacturer clearly labeled the box with "PRODUCT NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 64-BIT VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM"-- since most of us expect software to work with ALL versions of an operating system when it's listed as a supported operating system. Who even knew that there were 2 versions of the Vista operating system.
So if you've got a newer computer, make sure you check which version of Vista you are running before buying this software!!!
