1 out of 5 stars Gonna make this short...but not sweet   December 4, 2008
Vista is the worst windows ever made.
Pros: More aesthetically pleasing
Side bar is a nice addition

Cons: Periodic crashes
Uses up A LOT more RAM to run
Asks permission for EVERYTHING..which is very annoying
Occasional internet browsing problems
Software glitches

My suggestion is if you already have XP thank god that you did not upgrade. I have been regretting it every day of my life....just wait out until the next version of Windows. Perhaps by then Microsoft have figured out what that heck their problem is and work off the more stable XP platform.

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful looking, but...   December 3, 2008
I've owned a VISTA for over a year now and it has served me well, I guess. It's not a bad format for computer, and certainly is worth it if you want the newest thing out. But for some people like me, XP is better. Here's what I like and dislike about it:

LIKE:

-Pretty Looking

-Icons look cool

-Windows sidebar serves some good use

-The window changer is pretty cool and worth using

-Start menu looks nice, especially with the search form.

DISLIKE:

-Like Adam mentioned, Why must there be a window asking if we allow something to be installed everytime we install something?

-It might just be my Toshiba laptop, but Windows Media Player gets weird sometimes

-Itunes takes FOREVER to launch

-Things keep not responding

-Microsoft SAM is gone, WTH????

-Again, like Adam said, the games are terribly remade, and PINBALL IS MISSING!!!!

-THe search bar doesn't go away sometimes

So if you are looking for the newest thing out, do buy this, but keep this review in mind. You might just want to stick to XP instead.

3 out of 5 stars Looks nice, but just not worth it.   December 2, 2008
After upgrading my system from Windows XP SP3 to Windows Vista SP1, it didn't take long for me to realize I wished I hadn't bothered. My system takes twice as long to boot-up, and my programs take longer to load. Turning off Aero speeds things up a bit, but Aero is the one thing about Vista I really like. It's not my system either. I have a fast Intel Penryn Processor, and 3GB's of RAM. I'll admit that the upgrade was painless for me, and not nearly the nightmare that some users experienced. I also have no major issues with it. The problem is, everything that Vista and XP can do, XP does it better and faster. Without all the eye candy turned on, you'd think that XP was an upgrade to Vista. I'm currently beta testing Vista SP2 which should be released Q1, 2009. It seems to be slightly faster, but no major improvements. IMO wait for "Windows 7", and hope Microsoft gets it right.

3 out of 5 stars Windows Vista is ok but not great   November 29, 2008
I had to do a clean install of Vista and I am still not sure if I like it better than XP. The reason I upgraded is I wanted to use Open GL features of Vista. I have had some problems getting it set up, but it is working now.

Vista still has the hangups and crashes as XP did, but seems to be a bit more stable.

The best thing I can say is "I am getting used to it."

3 out of 5 stars It's not as evil as people are saying...   November 26, 2008
...but if you must, stick to XP. I first got Vista when I bought my laptop. Best Buy didn't have XP, so I was forced to get it. I heard a lot of bad things about this program. Nowadays, every time you see it Mac ad, it rips on Vista. (Sorry, Mac, but I'll never get your computers. I have computer xenophobia.) People are hating it, blaming it for everything bad that happens to their PC's.

So, seeing that I'm using Vista for many months now, I honestly don't want to get rid of it ASAP, but I still prefer XP. First, I'll list what Vista has that trumps over XP.

. It looks cool, I'll give it that.

. In the Start menu, there is a space where you can search for anything, instead of having to go to search. Very nifty!

. It might just be the laptop, but I think that it runs the Net a bit faster.

Okay, now I'll list the bad. This will range from just nitpicks to problems.

. Some programs are either not Vista compatible, (ex. PS2 emulator,) or can mess up occasionally. (PS1 emulator and iTunes.)

. Every time you install something, the screen turns dark and a window pops up to see if you allow this. It's kind of unneeded.

. The Sound Recorder has been dumbed down. It's just a plain sound recorder now. No longer can you backmask sounds or speed/slow them.

. Some games, (Such as Minesweeper) have been terribly remade. Also, what the hell is 'Purble Place?'

. When you open up the volume control, sometimes it won't go away after you're through.

. Another thing I forgot that Scott mentioned: Microsoft Sam is gone, which was quite fun to mess around with.

And that's about as much as I can think of right now. In all honesty, it's not Satan, and it's tolerable, but unless you really need a new computer real bad, stick to XP.
