Bad software November 20, 2008 Norton antivirus crashed my computer and made e-mail download take too long. So if you consider Norton, I recommend avoiding them.
Filled my needs November 18, 2008 I had trouble at first in installing this product. With help from my son who is in the computer business we were able to complete the installation. For the price, this appears to be adequate for my home computer. If there is only one user to a computer, it is fine, if not, it would be advisable to select another Norton product.
Terrible. Conflicts with existing software November 14, 2008 Only after buying this do you find out that you can't use it with your existing firewall. You have to uninstall your firewall AND not reinstall any other firewall except Norton. A simple warning on the box saying DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU USE A FIREWALL would save people alot of people alot of hassle but I guess it would end up costing Norton alot of sales too.
WILL NOT STOP "ANTIVIRUS XP 2009" VIRUS. TECH SUPPORT CHARGES TO REMOVE, BUT CAN'T. November 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got the "antispyware XP 2009" virus with this software installed & working properly. I have had Norton AV installed for over 4 years now (automatic renewal). I downloaded NOTHING to get this virus. I consider myself very computer competent & was "surfing the net" when the Norton pop-up "detected a worm & had to close..." Next thing I know my Norton was disabled & I couldn't even reach tech support from that computer. My browser was hijacked, I could only visit certain websites, the rest were "not found". I set up a "chat" with Norton tech support from my OTHER computer & waited 4 hours for someone from a 3rd world country to tell me they would fix it.. FOR $99 DOLLARS!!!! WHAT???? He explained that they are not part of Norton, but a separate I.T. support dept. THAT'S LIKE SELLING ME CAR INS., THEN JUST GIVING ME A PHONE # FOR A BODY SHOP WHEN I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT!!! I needed that computer so after a few choice words, I reluctantly agreed. They gave me a website to go to, which, you guessed it, I COULD NOT ACCESS FROM THE INFECTED COMPUTER. "Sorry, can't help you if you can't get to that address". I'M DONE WITH SYMANTEC. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. NO FREE SUPPORT OR REFUND IF THEIR PRODUCT DOES NOT DO WHAT THEY CLAIM IT WILL? FALSE ADVERTISING! WASTE OF MONEY. Tried emailing Symantec directly with the same result. "Sorry Charlie". Try McAfee or someone else. I can't remember the last time I felt so misled & ripped off
2005-2008 Still got a bad taste in your mouth? It's time to return! October 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Honestly I have hated Norton products since Norton 04. The only good thing made from Norton was their removal tool! Every year they consume more and more. More than 1/3 of the computer resources were being used by 07. Show me a virus that does that! In my opinion I would rather have a virus on my machine then install Norton 05-08.
After trying Kapersky 09, Trend Micro 09, Webroot W/Virus 6.0, F-Prot, AVG, AVAST and Norton 09. I am extremely impressed with Norton 09! It's the only one I have stayed with.
Installs in a minute!
I don't believe in installing more than one security (antispyware, antivirus, firewall) program on a PC it will cause problems. I currently have a router with a built in firewall (all routers do have NAT) and the Vista firewall. I didn't need a 3rd party "outgoing" firewall. (If my PC is clean why do I need that?)
If I did want an outgoing firewall I would have bough Norton Internet Security. Keeping it to one security program!
As far as scanning goes it has a built in detector on safe services and will bypass scanning these areas for faster scanning. When your computer goes idle it starts a quick scan in the background. As far as up-to date definitions go it always tells me that my definitions were automatically updated 10-30 minutes ago!
Once installed it did ask me to log into my Norton account, which I was grateful for since I will purchase it next year. (if they remain like 09)
However the registration was easier then Kapersky and Trend Micro. Plus it didn't automatically enroll me in auto yearly purchase like Spysweeper did.
