Beware of tech support policies! September 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We purchased this software mainly to create a slideshow with music. The program offers a lot of options...this aspect will not disappoint. The choices are endless! We did run into a problem when using the automatic color correction feature. It affected our transitions and pan and zoom. Once the correction was removed from the photos, the features then worked fine. The problem we ran into is tech support. Don't plan on getting any free help to get you up and going. Free support only covers install problems. If you have any application questions they charge $15 per call. I did use the free email service but it takes 24-48 hours to get a response and they never seemed to really understand my question (1 way conversation!) I know it is not just Corel doing this now...but it would be nice if you could get limited (say 30 days) free support to get up and running. It would have saved us money and much frustation to be able to communicate with a tech rep regarding a few problems and questions. By the way, the price is great...they want $90 on the Corel website for the same product. Our DVD slideshow eventually turned out great and we are excited to do more projects.
Great Value - Works well with AVCHD September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased to edit AVCHD recordings from Canon HF100. Easily pulls in the m2ts files generated from the camera and Canon software.
The Smart Proxy idea seems to really work. You load your high def footage in, open up the Smart Proxy Manager, wait to edit until it is done converting all of your footage.
The overall editing experience is very enjoyable, almost FUN! This is my first attempt serious camera/editing, so I'm no professional. Very easy to record your voice, add music, cut clips, alter playback speed, add Video filters, etc.
I have had the program "crash" a few times now...once when it was left open for an hour, twice when closing (doesn't ask if I want to save, crashes, but recovers the file when reopened)
All of the export options are great, able to upload good looking video to youtube and Vimeo. [...] (make sure to watch in High Quality by clicking link in lower right corner of video screen)
Excellent Video Editor for the Buck September 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent video editor for the money you pay. If you are planning to just gather together your home videos into nice-to-watch stories, this is a great piece of software to do so. Very nice effects and transitions are also available, albeit not as good as you'll find in other video editors available on this price range.
Good Software, Lousy User's Guide September 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Corel's Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus offers an abundance of features. Learning to use them is a real trial.
I moved from Adobe's Captivate, a program I truly enjoyed using, to VideoStudio 11.5 Plus, because of Adobe's insistence on flash video. I'm finding that it may be easier and quicker to find a good converter program and convert my videos to flash rather than continue to struggle with VideoStudio.
While feature-rich and compatible with many video formats, the documentation for VideoStudio is poor. The User's Guide is small and packed with tiny print and graphics. While I feel sure that everything possible has been included in the Guide, reading such tiny print while trying to follow along online is extremely difficult. Searching the Corel website for video tutorials produced a few but not enough basic tutorials for the program.
VideoStudio 11.5 Plus is a good program (from what I can tell so far) at a reasonable price, especially when compared to alternatives offered by Adobe and Sony. It is my hope that Corel will add many online tutorials so that customers will be able to develop their skills to take full advantage of all the features the program offers.
Four stars for the software, one star for documentation, three stars overall.
Perfect for the first timer! August 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
You have a dozen reviewers who will tell you all about the technical capabilities of this software. For me, I needed to make the occasional slide show that incorporates still images and some video, and I needed it to look better than the usual PowerPoint show. I also needed something more dependable and capable than Windows Video Maker. So far, this software has been fantastic. It's amazing how much control I have over transitions, fades, etc! I can do what I want to do, without going to a manual every 5 minutes, and the deal from Amazon can't be beat!
