good buy March 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Office is sufficient for a student's need
i loved the interface of iwork 08 and word 2008 has it
its also nice being able to run the popular programs and not having to convert and all
I did not own office 2004 but i have used it and there are improvements
I am not a Microsoft fan but they are the leaders because of something eh?
i did not like entourage though. the interface of ical and mail is way nicer. My day is neat but since i dont use entourage then its useless
the new notebook interface is neat!
Office 2008 for MAC Home and Student March 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered Office 2008 for MAC Home and Student addition after using the trial version for less than a week. I previously used Office on PC computers so I was familiar with the interface and commands. It is completely compatible with all my previous files in Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I also like the way Entourage works. Previously I used Outlook for my email client and I like the look and feel of Entourage better. All aspects of the program have made it easier to switch to a MAC, which I fine to be much faster and much less "buggy" than the PC computers I have owner. Excellent product overall.
Worth it March 3, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had my doubts after having read some of the negative reviews, but this purchase was worth the money. I have been using it for over three weeks and have not had any problems. You have to save files as a 97 Word doc to avoid compatibility problems with PC's, but other than that I am very happy.
Excel is a step backwards - stick to older version March 3, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I just got a Mac and Office and wish I had either bought the older version of office or stuck w/ a PC. In Excel they remove ALL of the add-ins for things like creating histograms. The charting is broken so that you can't add X-axis data labels to a simple column chart. (Workaround: create a scatter plot, add the labels, then switch back). On top of it, this version is supposed to be faster but on my 2.2GHz Intel duo machine it feels slower than the Windows version on my 1.4GHz Dell machine.
A shame about Entourage March 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd like to use Entourage but it has one serious flaw running on Leopard, at least on my computer. Every time I try to add a calendar event it switches the month to August. That will be fine when I come to add events this August but it makes the calendar unusable the other eleven months of the year. I have Office installed on a computer running Tiger and this doesn't seem to happen. Microsoft really needs to address this. Exchange support would also be nice but that's not an option unless you buy one of the more expensive versions.
Otherwise my experience is neutral. I use Word because my school uses it but it's using Office 2003 so I run Office 2008 in compatibility mode. Having no real need to run Office 2008 and since it was a free upgrade I may just revert to Office 2004.
