Office for MAC September 11, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I switched from using PC's to Macs and it is one of the greatest things a person can do. Unfortunately schools still use windows so I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac so I could use my computer for school. The program runs great and has all the features that the windows version has. Now I can do my homework in peace without all the headaches of a PC. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a Mac.
A big dissapointment September 9, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I write for a living. I have used Microsoft Office for years and years. Even though I use Macs exclusively these days, I actually like Microsoft products (you'll pry my Xbox 360 from my cold dead fingers).
But this edition of Office is a turd. Slow to open on a machine with 4 gigs of ram. Crash prone when doing something as complex as search/replace. Irritating interface choices all around. Installing Office even managed to break another bit of software: Final Draft. Office:Mac is just bad news from start to finish.
Last night I gave up, uninstalled Office and switched over to iWork '08. My only gripe with that software while testing it has been the lack of an autosave. But I've tolerated Office:Mac's crap for too long, and I'm willing to train myself to command-s every few lines if it means knowing I won't be irritated while working.
Slow To Open but Otherwise OK September 9, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have a top of the line brandy new iMac and everything is SUPER fast...except for the programs in this Office suite. For some odd reason they take FOREVER to open. Once they're open they work fine, but still a bit sluggish compared to other programs on the Mac. (If anyone knows why, I'd love to correct the problem.)
I'm keeping my 2004 version... September 9, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Microsoft decided to downgrade Excel for Mac 2008 by not including Visual Basic (aka "macros") and the Analysis Toolpack (the statistics tools), which are both very important for business / technical users and included in the 2004 version. And worse, theses packages are an integral part of Office 2007 for Windows. To me, this clearly shows that Microsoft only downgraded the new Excel for Mac so that advanced users still have a reason to keep running Windows, despite all the known problems with Vista. If MS offered a "full" version of Excel, many users would see no point in running XP/Vista anymore...
Despite all the enhancements in the 2008 version, Office for Mac 2004 runs without a problem in Intel Macs (thanks to Rosetta) and delivers what is expected. So people that use macros or the statistical tools just CAN'T upgrade to the new version.

What a drag September 9, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
it's too bad, this version of MS Word even instructs users to do things that SIMPLY DO NOT WORK! What happened Microsoft? Even sending documents is difficult, and when attempting to get it right, the instructions are WRONG. Then, when getting support, the support is terrible - not the people. If you do get this, NEVER attempt to send a document as they instruct. I hope they fix this and send out upgrades. Otherwise, I've wasted my money, and a whole lot of my time sorting out their mistakes. Get MS Word 2004 and you'll be in MUCH BETTER SHAPE!
