Has "minor" bugs, not for use really with DvD, very good otherwise December 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very good for backing up your entire Operating System (OS), (Vista, and XP),programs, and files if you have two (2) or more Hard Drives (HD) available. DvD use is too difficult if it is possible, which I doubt. I would avoid this software if plan to use DvD disks only, you most probably end up a seperate HDs. Use of HD instead of DvD is much faster time wise, anyway. The time saved can be considerable. It seem that a program (TrueImage) contain in this software package can occassionaly delay the boot of the OS's and the shutting down of the OS's - this can be defeated depressing CTL/ALT/DELETE Keys at the same time, select this program and terminate its execution, if this gets tiresome one can uninstall the software package. I have yet to do so since this delay is not frequent. I needed no software support from Acronis to backup/duplicate my laptop computer hard drive OS/Files/Programs. I upgrade the laptop to a faster HD, 5400 to 7200 rpm. I networked to the second HD that I have in my desktop, and could of use the boot drive of my desktop. The direction (not hard copy) for use of the software was adequate.
Didn't work for me... December 18, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this highly-rated product with great expectations. All I got was frustration. Upon installation, my windows 32 installation directory was "corrupted" and would not even come up in "safe mode". I tried a repair mode boot up, but the repair wanted a password for my windows administrator (me) and I had not passworded my windows--of course it didn't work without a password (Thanks Microsoft, for more trash there). I finally tried booting up using the "last good configuration" option. On the 5th try at this my system came back. Eager for more challenges from this software, I ran a repair installation of "true image" and got a program freeze when I tried to do a backup. I completely uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. Once again, a program freeze, right in the middle of a backup, this time it even froze the mouse. I uninstalled it and returned it to Amazon for a refund. I totaled about 6 hours of frustration and terror, thinking that I might have to reload windows and start over. Dantz Retrospect ran much better for me, seemed to be a more complete backup program, but is hard to learn to use.
good tool but with some drawbacks December 17, 2007 This is a good tool. It may be a great tool. The main problem is that for computer illiterates like me, the directions and options for installing are not in "human speak". I still am unsure how to set it up properly for monthly self-scanning purposes.
Clones Sometime December 16, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Product made a bootable clone to an identical Hitachi 256MB hard-disk. But I really bought this product to transfer from my slower, older 256GB Hitachi to a larger 500GB Samsung hard-drive. Here the cloned copy would not boot.
Terrific December 12, 2007 3 out of 11 found this review helpful
The item was promptly shipped, arrived in good condition. It was easy to install and it works very well.
