Full-featured but buggy July 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
On a positive note, this program does include a full feature set for the hobbyist-level user. I have learned how to create some very nice DVD's from my home movie camera. If you invest the time to learn how to use it and fight through the issues, you will be rewarded.
I have very positive experiences with other Adobe products and eagerly await the arrival of a bug-fix release to make the product more usable. Unfortunately, none is available yet.
For me, the biggest problems are frequent crashes, unable to read the .avi files it writes, and don't even THINK of deleting any scenes after you have set up menus!
Good enough July 27, 2008 Pinnacle's Studio 10 always closed unexpectedly without saving so, I bought Premiere Elements 4. It also forced quit several times until I installed an update.
It's easy to use but doesn't have any new fun transitions or effects.
Rendering is just as slow as it was when I had Premiere back in the 90's (and I have a fast computer). At least I can burn directly to a dvd now.
Do not buy if you run Vista July 26, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been using premiere elements since version 1. I recently purchased a new dell computer with a quad core processor, 4 gb ram, and an nvidia 8800 video card. The computer came with Premiere Elements 4.0 preinstalled. The Adobe Premiere Elements version 4.0 application is unusable on Vista. The program crashes at random times when trying to edit video and/or burn DVDs. There are numerous people having the same problem. Believe me there is something wrong with the application. I worked in IT for 25 years as a programmer, systems analyst and Oracle DBA so I know how to diagnosis application problems and determine if it is related to the machine (hardware), os or application. Don't waste you money if you are running Vista.
Nothing worth doing comes easy July 12, 2008 I downloaded the Trial Version. It works. I read many of these reviews and people say it's not intuative it's not drag and drop. Well WRONG! If you launch Premier you can drag jpgs and mp3s and wmv files right into the work area. I had problems with avi's captured by Movie Maker so I converted them to wmv and problems gone. I suggest working with wmv files. Saying it's not inutative is like going into a High Tech Operating Room and saying you couldn't do the brain surgery because the tools weren't intuative. Nothing worth doing comes easy. There are tons of books and the Adobe Help works good. So... it's worth the $80 if you want better spend the $800 or more. There are lots of people selling software and hardware that should work and kinda does. This isn't as bad as most. I am an AdobeFanatic.
Be careful before buying this software!!! July 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had heard lots of good things about this software and found it at a great price. Once I downloaded it though, things started to go wrong. I played around with the options and effects, but the program would shut down at times. Also some of the themes that could be applied to slideshows made your pictures show up upside down. Also the pictures that I would import from my computer were really blurry.
