Glad I bought it January 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased VMware Fusion so that I could run Windows XP and a few Windows only programs on my Mac. It just flat out works! Its better then I thought it would be. Simple drag and drop between Windows and Mac allowing me to use some expensive Windows programs rather then purchase the Mac equivalents.
VERY EASY TO INSTALL! January 15, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I installed this program yesterday and it works better than I expected. It will let me switch back to Leopard or drag photos from Windows to Leopard with ease. I purchase it so I could use some of my software and programs I had on my PC that are not available with apple. I even can use mail programs I had on my old PC on Windows XP. So far no conflicts between the two programs at all.
It is working exactly as described on the internet and I am very satisfied with the results. Like I said so far I give it a 5 star rating!!!!
A better option than bootcamp January 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Fusion has worked flawlessly to date. Installation was simple -- I used a previously-created Bootcamp partition without any difficulties. (One word of warning -- you will need to re-validate Windows, so if you are using an OEM version of Windows like I was, it's going to want another license code. I resolved this by validating over the phone with Microsoft.)
A great piece of software. Very fast, very clean.
Tough to set up January 9, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
What a nightmare to setup - It took more than five tries to get it going and even then the only way I could make it work was to start with my Win XP UPGRADE disc, which then asked for my Win 95 OS disc, and then wanted the XP upgrade disc again. My original plan was to load Win 95 first and then do the XP upgrade - but for some reason the software wouldn't recognize my Win 95 disc, so I had to use a back door to make it work. Go figure.
That said, once I got it up and running, it works great! Nice and fast and no hangups, drags, or crashes. I'm a heavy Mac user but I need Windows for a handful of programs so I'm not too worried about overheating or stressing the system too much (I'm using a MacBook with OS 10.4, a 2.16 GHz Intel chip with 1GB of RAM, BTW). Its a nice program that makes my computer even more versatile than it already is.
Again, the biggest complaint is the setup. If you can get past that, you're in good shape. Great product once its up and running.
The second biggest complaint is that it took a long time to ship cross-state. To put it into perspective, I got a package delivered via media mail from San Diego in two days - from Allentown, PA this package took two weeks via First Class! WTF? So if you need it in a hurry, pay more for postage or just sit back and smoke 'em if you got 'em.
My third biggest complaint is that I had to download over 25 security updates for Windoze just to get up to speed. Thanks for reminding me why I left in the first place.
Difficult to get started January 7, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am new to Macs and wanted to run some of my windows games. Fusion is not compatible with newer versions of Direct X. I asked for tech help and they just quoted me this. They had no suggestions on how to get it to work with 3D graphic acceleration. Very disapointed.
