Great gaming mouse October 1, 2008 Having used a Logitech G5 mouse for quite a while, I was a bit leery about "upgrading" to a G9. I though, "how much different can it really be?" And the answer is VERY! The tracking is excellent, the click response wonderful and the scrollwheel is very sensitive. The increased laser resolution also gives more range of tracking than the G5 had.
Let me just say that mice, like keyboards and other input devices are all a matter of choice and personal preference. For some people, trackballs are the thing. For others, touchpads. Many new users of the G9 complain about its size, regardless of the shell in use. For me, the mouse is a perfect fit in my hand.
All I can say to potential users is try before you buy - go to a local electronics store and HOLD the mouse before you purchase it, like I did. That way, you have no surprises when you open the box.
Great Product September 25, 2008 I really like this product. It is exactly as described and all the buttons are programmable. I purchased because I am a big gamer and this mouse does exactly what I need
Not what I was hoping for. September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A few things I wasn't expecting persuaded me to return this mouse and go back to the best mouse ever: the MX Revolution.
1) The hyperfast scroll wheel DOES NOT include smart-shifting technology. In order to change between freewheeling and clicking, you must turn the mouse over and engage a switch. In my opinion, this defeats the entire purpose of the expensive wheel.
2) The onboard memory does NOT retain ALL of your settings on all computers. When used on computers without setpoint, some features are not available, such as horizontal scrolling and zoom.
3) The clunky feel of the mouse is not characteristic of Logitech. I did not find the mouse to be comfortable even with all the options.
4) The cord is stiff! Thanks to a nicely gliding mouse and slick coating on the cord, when you let go of the mouse it may wander away. It also sticks up and gets in the way of everything.
The only thing I really found as impressive as advertised is the DPI switching ability, which is super cool, but not worth keeping.
Logitech G9 just a great product August 30, 2008 pI now own 2 of these things and they are fabulous, I can adjust the DPI on the fly and the mouse is ultra responsive which is exactly what I am looking for in a gaming mouse... I highly suggest this mouse it is very comfortable and precise... A++++
great for "finger grip" mouse position August 26, 2008 This is my first "gaming" mouse to use, so am used to the generic Dell-type mice everyone gets with their computers or wireless package --- small, 2 buttons, center scroll wheel, no crazy angled shape to the design. So using those I've always used a "claw/finger" grip and lift the mouse with my fingers. This mouse is GREAT for that! The "small" cover/grip is nice and flat on the sides with a small footprint. 99% of the other gaming mice out there have a huge palm-grip design with all these crazy grooves for your thumb, long enough to rest your whole hand on, etc. If that's the kind of mouse you like, then this might not be for you as even the "large" cover/grip is really only slightly larger than the "small" grip. It's a little more contoured, but isn't gigantic where you're gonna rest your hand on it.
Great feature is you can set 5 different sensitivity points on it in 200 intervals from 200-3200. Any 5 you want! Easy to change and play around with.
Only negative I have so far is the weights. Like I said, using the "claw" grip one picks up the mouse from time to time with the thumb and pinky/ring fingers. Well the weights are in the back/rear side of the mouse, so when I pick up the mouse it tilts/pivots back a little which DOES move the cursor initially. Used to the 50/50 weight distribution and possibly mice not SO sensitive! Maybe I need to play with the weights a lil more, play with my grip, or just remove them entirely (which is a shame as it takes that feature of the mouse away). Might have to hand make a little weight at the top where the cord goes in to balance it out if I get that industrious.
