4 out of 5 stars Quicken Premier - Good Overall Financial Manager   July 7, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I upgraded from Quicken 2007 to Quicken Premier 2008, and, although the Quicken upgrade wasn't necessary, I did find a few changes in the 2008 version, like the calendar on the home page, tags, and a tab layout that shows they are trying to improve Quicken with the upgrades. I found Quicken Premier to be fairly robust overall as it has a loan calculator, and on budgeting Quicken allows you to base it on your existing spending data, which I found helpful as you got somewhere to start. The graphics and layout could be better (and I did notice some of the screen flickering mentioned in other reviews), but in terms of usefulness I found Quicken a good buy.

2 out of 5 stars They want to charge you for support for a product that does not work   June 30, 2008

I have had pretty good experiences with the Quicken Premier itself, but I had a very bad experience when I signed-up for Quicken Online Backup.

I paid the $[...] and went through the installation procedure, but when I tried to use it, it came up with an error saying:
"LA107: Bad Pathname () Contact Customer Support at http://...."

I went through the customer support pages, and their robotic customer support algorithm comes up with an answer that totally does not solve the problem. The only option they give me is to do a live chat for...

$[...] per session (for the $[....] product that never worked).

If this problem doesn't fix itself soon, I am going to have to do a charge-back on my credit card. I can't believe they don't offer better customer support for blatant bugs when products do not work at all from the very start.

3 out of 5 stars OK personal financial software package   June 16, 2008

I had to upgrade to keep the online functions working and did so with concerns given all the reviews here. 2008 software has worked fine. Install was no problem, no bugs. All the previous account information and records were maintained for me. I have had it for 4 months or so and have no complaints. I have the premier for the investment tracking and have found Quicken an easy way to track status of a variety of investments.

There is not much in terms of improved features from the previous version I had. I tried a microsoft money trial prior to purchasing this (as I am not happy about the requirement to constantly upgrade to maintain download capabilities) but I did not find anything better about microsoft money. It has the same upgrade requirements as quicken.

4 out of 5 stars Quicken 2008 Premier-don't fix what isn't broken   May 30, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I have used several versions of Quicken for almost 20 years, and this is the first time that the interface confused me. It was not obvious how to do some of the basic things.

When entering several items in the register Quicken resets the date to the current date after each entry. Not sure why they changed that from what has worked for decades, but they did.

Always a good product, but like Microsoft they think they know what the user wants to do instead of letting the user take the lead.

5 out of 5 stars Great upgrade...from 2003   May 11, 2008

I haven't had experience with Quicken 2007, so I cannot attest to the chenges between the two, however, it is a world apart from 2003. If you are looking for NEW product, not an upgrade from an existing product, this one suits greatly. However, if those who are using 2007 are true in their claims, maybe 2007 IS the way to go?? 2008 WILL have the 2008 tax information though...
