1 out of 5 stars Avoid Quicken   April 23, 2008

I had to give up and stay with MS Money 2007. It was easy to set up Quicken as it downloaded data from financial institutions ( but each institution had a different time frame it supplied from 3 months to 18 months, making historical calculations with Quicken worse than useless) , and after doing it the first time, subsequent times, it claimed no new transactions from Bank of America (untrue), and totally bollixed up transactions from TIAA-CREF. Then its built in graphics were flat unacceptable and unuseable with the "My Accounts" window refusing to stay as top window, but with elements of underlying window being redrawn on top of it. Also it kept nagging me to use their pay services that I get for free through my banks. All-in-all I grade it a D-; and can not recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars What has happened to Intuit?   April 16, 2008

I am stunned by both the reviews and my own recent personal experience with Intuit.

I have used Quicken since its' inception.I am currently running Quicken2004 Deluxe. When it appeared on the market I started using Quickpay which morphed into QuickPayroll. And have been a subscriber all along.

I just recently decided to upgrade my machine to a Vista based platform. Vista has now been out for 1 1/2 years and I thought I'd be safe. I go to install QuickPayroll and discover it is not compatible with Vista. I try the Intuit callback service, no response. On their phone line I received conflicting information on comptibility issues with Quicken, Quickbooks,, QuickBooks Payroll and QuickPayroll.

Given the nature of the program, how can they NOT inform their user base of the compatatility issue. We're paying for the online update service this should have been a notice sent out to all users!!!!! THIS IS NO WAY TO OFFER A BUSINESS SUPPORT!!!!!!! AND MY EMPLOYEES WANT TO GET PAID, they're starting to get angry.

I may try to run the programs under Microsofts virtual machine or move them to my laptop which is still on XP. But, after reading all these reviews I don't think I want to DOWNgrade to this generation of Intuit products.

5 out of 5 stars Good for my home business... not for larger businesses   April 15, 2008

I just ditched the idea of using Quickbooks and Microsoft Accounting for Quicken 2008 Home & Business. It's a simple program that doesn't try to be too much for a small home business. I purely do business online so I don't need anything complicated like inventory, employee, and payroll tracking. Things that I love are:

- Track your tax-deductible business commuting (it even calculates your deductions by the current rate).
- Scan and attach business receipts to your bank transactions (shown in a live preview).
- Updates bank and PayPal transactions with a single click and password.
- I think you can Tag your transactions and create reports based off of them such as sales tax collected.

It's fast, easy to navigate, and has pretty much everything that's promised. I don't think I have any complaints... yet...

1 out of 5 stars Buggy, clunky, with wretched support and no accountability.   March 31, 2008

While I like the fact that this software allows you to sync with your bank accounts, the syncing doesn't always work. When I first installed the software it worked. Then after an update one of my accounts just stopped syncing even though I was doing the same things and even though the other linked accounts came out. When I turned to tech support, I found out that there essentially is none. They offer only online tech support, which only provides the most basic information for setting up the first time, not for troubleshooting. When I tried to dig deeper, I got instructions to click on non-existent buttons and screens that weren't labeled. So I e-mailed them for support, and got an e-mail back with more instructions for non-existent buttons and such.

The other thing I wanted from the software was the reporting on investments, which worked, but didn't offer many features that I don't already get for free through my online banking with Wells Fargo.

I would not buy this software again. If I can't find a better product, I will export the info from my bank and create the information I need in Excel for less money and less hassle.
