1 out of 5 stars Virus?   August 5, 2008

Anyone besides me end up with a Trojan virus alert upon installing and using this game? To top it off, I bought two so now I have to worry that I may corrupt someone else's computer.
Terrible.

5 out of 5 stars Adults: Get out that old Tarot deck and play...   July 31, 2008
The standard Tarot card decks (78 cards) now have a gaming use, beside fortune telling.

Ok, sorry for Francophile babbling about one game, but it is my by far favorite :).

Actually there is only one dedicated English language Tarot playing software online that I know of, but this suite costs the same and has 70 games.

Hoyle has full screen (for using the whole screen in widescreen laptops and monitors), high resolution, sound support. Not exactly rare features in today's commercial boxed games, but many downloadable card games don't have these simple features.

Tarot is much easier than say contract Bridge and even easier than games like Canasta. What I like about it is that it's ancient, historical, and it puts our paper Tarot decks to good use when running across the border into Canada, after learning on the computer.

You can find Tarot decks for sale online (real cards) that are replicas from the 1400's and 1500's. Obviously these are colorful and interesting to look at, and much different from modern divination decks. No, these are completely differently themed. That is, for instance instead of a new age "Hierophant" card, we have a real Renaissance Pope.

Another thing you can do after virtually learning with Hoyle: play real humans online at various French or Canadian sites. Once you learn the game specific terms, you can navigate the popup boxes asking things like; 'Prise/Garde' (declare normal or double points this round).

By the way, the online French sites have a 100 or so players round the clock in free play tables of various skill levels; yes, there are a very few gambling sites if you must look around for them.

The one negative is that the Hoyle Tarot deck has only one graphic version, near as I can tell. But the numbers 1,2,3,...21 are all there on the edges, so you can identify the trump suit cards just fine, even if your real decks are pictured differently.

If your favorite game is somewhat rare, and if its also in Hoyle, this software might also be for you. It won't beat the dedicated competition in Bridge or Hold 'Em (obviously).

4 out of 5 stars Good Card Program   July 29, 2008
This is best Hoyle so far, much improved over the last one I bought in 2006. Works fine on VISTA. You have to trial & error your way around sometimes, but overall it is very sophisticated with lots of card games and variations. It is a good buy. It does come with a very good manual, so take time to read it for each game you want to play, saves lots of grief.

5 out of 5 stars Play it!   July 4, 2008
Hoyle Card Games 2008
One of the first games I learned to play as a kid was Solitaire. I am a senior citizen now and found a way to play Spades when I am alone.
This software has always been first rate and I spend a lot of time on my computers and find that taking a break to play a card game a valuable way to relax and sometimes solve a computer problem that is bugging me by doing so.
This software is worth the cost

5 out of 5 stars I love these games!   June 16, 2008

From the first day i installed the games onto my mac i was addicted! Beware, you will have a hard time turning the games off! Love the gin games and the blackjack. I have tried other software for card games, but this is by far the best.
