A LOT has changed since the NGE fiasco - SWG now ROCKS! October 15, 2008 Say what you want about SOE/LA, they will go down in history for executing the biggest betrayal of their customers of any online game provider, and arguably of any software provider, in the history of computer gaming. I'm sure Julio Torres and Cindy "Too Much Reading" McCintyre are quite proud. They sprung the NGE on their unsuspecting cutomer base and almost completely wiped it out in the space of just a few days. Text books will have chapters on the whole SWG/NGE experience as cautionary tales of how not to treat your customers.
Ok, that's the obligatory NGE flame. Things in SWG have changed A LOT since the NGE hit in 2005. Every profession has extensive expertise systems implemented, that, while not providing the level of character customization the game had before Julio Torres' love child nearly destroyed the game, do give each profession a unique slant on performing their roles. Creature Handler has returned, in the form of Beastmaster expertise, and this includes methods for creating your own unique creatures, including getting lucky with mutations. There are creatures available to beastmasters, such as the nerf, tiglon and chubafly, that don't appear anywhere else in the game. And the best thing, this profession is available to everyone, to use as a hybrid with their primary/base prof. Droid commander is coming, as well, building on this idea, but with droids instead of creatures.
Smugglers actually smuggle now - a whole mission-based smuggling system has been introduced to the game, with a factional ranking system and actual benefits to the character beyond those available to max level toons - increases in expertise-related abilities based on smuggler mission level.
Remember Rori? Moon of Naboo, had two major cities and a small rebel outpost. One of those cities - Restuss - is now a smoking ruin, and the entire zone around the remains of the city is a constant PVP zone, as are three other bases (on naboo, corellia and talus), that can be turned either rebel or imperial and reward those members of the same faction with limited use stims based on how long they hold the base in their possession. The entire Galactic Civil War has been revamped and made actually -relevant-, moreso than it ever was before. No longer can you grind up to colonel in a few hours on npcs - now you actually have to Earn your rank, and with rank comes priveledges. Buffs and combat bonuses are there for high ranking members of the empire or rebellion.
There are also 5 new Heroic Encounters - high level instanced themed fights with good loot and character bonus stats given for successful completion, with a 6th on the way - Hoth (the planet in Empire Strikes Back)- which will have vehicle combat and atmospheric flying. Remember the village? Well, it's back, only now it's the Township, and serves as the staging area for all heroic encounters.
Remember SEA's, and camping high level spawns in the hope of finding a good one? Well, now in the game you make your own. You can tailor your armor, clothing and weapon bonuses how you want (weapons can now get SEA's as well). Weaponsmith has recently received a massive update, including the ability to craft combat bonuses into weapons along with customizing their damage output type and amount.
A Storyteller mechanism has been added to the game, enabling folks to make their own adventures they can then invite folks to partake of. Nearly every item, creature and structure in the game is available to the aspiring story teller. This level of player-driven event customization is completely absent from any other MMO in existence. There's simply nothing else like this anywhere.
A new landable space station has been introduced, hosting space-related collection quests and other pilot-oriented content. Players can now own and fly gunboats, massive pob's with many turrets and massive offensive output.
Entertainers have been given a very important role in the game - a very comprehensive buff system including essential buffs for viable combat.
There are literally hundreds of collections available to the player to complete, rewarding everything from just some experience, to Unique and powerful items (like the most powerful jedi clothing available in the game, schematics for weapons and armor, buff items, even the schematic for a gunboat). Many quests systems have been introduced too, for folks of all levels.
This is just some of the stuff that has been crammed into this game since the NGE almost killed this game. I'm a DAY 1 vet, a pre-cu jedi, and I can honestly say that this game has NEVER BEEN BETTER. I've tried every major MMO and none can come close to this game. Own your own home, decorate it how you like, customize your character how you want, make your own city, own your own ships, fly in space and run on the ground, make your own weapons and clothing, armor and gear, customize your appearance any way you want - nothing has the level of character customizations this game has.
Like Star Wars? This is the best Star Wars game available right now - long after TFU is in the bargain-basement discard bin, this game will be rocking. There's a free trial available - give it a shot. It's gonna blow your mind.
This is the Best MMO Ever July 2, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I played this game when it was first realeased and played for only a few months. At that time there were allot of bugs and the professions were'nt very fleshed out. I recently downloaded the trial version and found that I love this game now. I have a droid engineer and I have to say the crafting in this game is the best of any mmo. I also have a jedi that's very fun to play and the legacy quests are great. I think this game has gone through so many updates that has become one of the best MMO's out there.
NGE, FTL. Pre-cu, FTW April 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Although the New Game "Enhancements" (NGE) was supposed to make the game more "balanced" and more "Star Warsy" it did neither. Back when the game was good, Jedi was an honored profession, terribly hard to get, now anyone can be a jedi from teh very start. Crafting used to be a very big part of this game, now crafters and merchants are poor because of the in-balance of loot to crafted products. If you are thinking about buying this game, I sincerely suggest you do not. If you wish to purchase this game for use with SWGEmu ([...]) than but a used one. That's all i have to say.

A great MMORPG July 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The starter kit is very fun. You can create your own StarWars Character and live your own StarWars life. I don't understand why a lot of People gave this Game a bad review. The combat is okay, but good enough. The Graphice are also ok, and the Gameplay is Excellent. Getting lots of Credits and exp. takes a long time, but it is Worth it. You can choose your side in the Galactic Civil War. Be Rebels, Imperials, Smugglers, Bandits, and Black Sun Pirates. You can own your own starfighter, and the First one you get is free! You can work for Jabba The Hutt, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader himself! Join the Imperial Navy Or the Rebel Space Fleet. Fight in massive space battles, including Mon Cal Cruisers, Star Destroyers, and much, much more. You should Definitely Check this game out.
I'm such a dork March 13, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this kit JUST to get the instant travel vehicle. Been playing it over 3 years... I guess with anything, it gets old after a while. A new player would have fun with this for many months. I suppose, played in moderation, this game would be fun forever. Good graphics and nearly endless amount of things to do.
