4 out of 5 stars Good but expensive.   December 3, 2008
I'm a rally fan and I bought this steering wheel to play Richard Burns Rally and GTR which is arguably somes of the most realistic sim driving game out there, and it works great with them.

The built quality of the wheels are excellent which is also a con making the price too high in my opinion. Aesthetically the pedals and steering wheel is nicer than some older cars. This is one aspect that can be tone down to keep the price down. Especially since Logitech has the cheaper set called Momo, but it is a big gap in price from this G25. There is no midrange model which would have been nice because after less than two weeks of using my G25 the "steering wheel's box" had an electrical spark for seemingly no reason, smokes up and stop working. Fortunately the pedals and shifter still work for me after the incident.

The pedals: My favorite part because the clutch, the brake and the throttle each has it's own pressure and all made of metal which makes for some realistic and satisfying footworks. The spikes underneath the pedals panel are great and they really help sticking it to the carpet.

The H shifter: Quite nice, but the gears are little too close to each other. Unlike a real box, there is lack of pressure and it's easy to move between the gears. The gears clicks in so it is good for circuit racing. There is a switch to alternate between 6speed shifting and inline shifting. The "clicks" make the inline shifting ineffective so I'm not sure why they add that feature because if you want to shift downward twice, you have to shift down, move the stick back to middle position, then shift down again, which just isn't very effective, especially if you're going down a couple of gears. Also the clicks means the stick won't be effectively usable as a handbrake, unlike the non-click stick on the Momo.

The wheel: The wheel is leather wrapped and it feel very nice. It has up to 900 degrees of turn, but the great thing is you can manually limit the turning degree to whatever you want from 900 to somewhere around 200 (I don't remember specifically anymore). The two padel shifters behind the wheel is what I mostly use for rally games which is a useful and enjoyable feature. Unavoidable, but the wheel makes some mechanical noise when steering, the noise is almost like a handsaw sawing wood.

My biggest complaint about this steering wheel (beside that it died after two weeks) is that the wheel only have two table clampers as oppose to it's H shifter which has three. Even the cheaper Logitech Momo wheel has three table clampers. This is especially a problem for thick wooden tables. My solution is to use large gluable padding of velcro strap to stick it onto the table which result in great stability.

Overall I actaully prefer the physical aspect of the Logitech Momo wheel because it is thicker and required a little more pressure without actaully requiring to adjust the "spring pressure" in the computer. But the G25 pedals and shifter is on a class of it's own. Currently I use the Momo's wheel with the still working G25 shifter and pedals, which is an interesting combination. Although the G25 wheel has better precision.

The Logitech G25 is nothing short of incredible. Right from the box you realize that unlike other wheels, it is a leather wrapped, metal wheel. Right away, it gives a better sense of realism than most wheels. It takes only a few minutes to set up and plug in, and before long you will be addicted to the simplest of racing games all over again.

Before you buy, you will want to make sure you have a sturdy place to mount it. The force feedback is not rip your arm off strong, but it is enough to shake and break flimsy desk like mine to bits. You will also need to consider a spot for the 6 speed shifter, because whether you use it or not, all of the buttons but 2 are located on it. My shifter is located next to my wheel on the desk, which is an awkward way to shift.

The force feedback of the wheel is one of its greatest qualities. It has the usual ability to vibrate like crazy. More importantly it has precise and strong force feedback. The force feedback allows you to tell how each corner of the car is acting like a real driver by simulating forces on the steering column. Not only does this increase the realism of your driving experience dramatically, it is a competitive advantage that an experienced sim racer wouldn't drive with out. I must point out though that the force feedback is only as good as video games make it; it is up to the game to tell the wheel what these forces should be. Some games don't provide realistic feedback or any at all.

I do have a few specific complaints about the wheel though. When you turn it quickly, the ffb motors generate quite a bit of noise. When you really get sawing on the wheel, your wheel will be noisier than your speakers. While very durable (I can yank left and right till my desk breaks without hurting it) the shifter feels very flimsy. After spinning the car and angrily smashing the shifter into reverse, I manged to break reverse gear. Now every time I go for reverse I get 6th. The pedals are also way too close. I can drive without a problem in socks, but in shoes my clumsy feet find everything but the brake.

Overall it is a great wheel. I have had it for 2 years and still enjoy every second on the track with it. If you are really in to simulation racing and have the money, go for it. It is a quality product. Arcade style racers will find less use for the features and miss having twelve buttons on the wheel itself for nitrous and super backflip ejecty thingy buttons, but it is still one of the best wheels on the market. For a sim racer it is a great buy and you will love it.

5 out of 5 stars The best wheel ever   November 25, 2008
If you take car racing seriously, then you must get this racing wheel, is the closes feeling to real racing.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent setup   November 22, 2008
So I researched and researched, considered cheaper options but ended up with this wheel. Why ? The glowing reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere (gaming forums). The wheel, shifter paddles and pedals are of exceptional quality, I love them. The shifter is ehhh.... I'm not crazy about it and I don't use it at all. Its way too loose feeling for me and feels nothing like a shifter should, theres no resistance/feedback? I have 2 manual cars btw. Plus you're a lot quicker with the paddles anyhoo. Theres no real instructions for consoles so I had to do a bit of Googling to figure out what the heck I was doing and there is no option for this wheel in GT5P's menu but rest assured, its one of them I just forget which. The force feedback is strong and quite realistic feeling, the motor does have a whir but you don't notice it as you're racing. I know they mention 900 degrees of motion on the wheel but I wish it was less. As I'm racing I don't like having to turn the wheel so much.

So those few faults I mentioned aside and the fact that you MUST build or buy yourself a racing seat and frame to go along with it, this is an excellent setup. All together you're looking at $400+ for a proper setup not including the game, the system, the tv, etc. but hey its cheaper than racing for real and less real parts to break !!

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy for PS3!   November 19, 2008

Do not buy this for PS3 especially if you are looking for a wheel easily compatible with Gran Turismo. It is not one of the indicated wheels and comes with PC installation instructions. The controls are not corresponding to those in the options menu. Sure, pedals aren't metal, you don't get a clutch pedal and the steering wheel isn't leather wrapped but the GT steering wheel is a better value for most gamers.
