VirusBarrier took out my Photoshop CS3 and possibly Java. April 29, 2008 For years I shunned anti-virus software because Macs don't get get attacked like Windows (fewer targets = less bang for the hack). Finally talked into it, I chose VirusBarrier from rave reviews. After installation, Photoshop CS3 (the foundation of my photo service) crashed every time I tried to save image files, and then crashed upon launch. Needless to say, I uninstalled VB ASAP (I think; I hope). I then reinstalled the Adobe apps, then reinstalled OS X, to no avail. The Genius Bar folks couldn't solve it.
Poring through Adobe user forums, I learned that some critical VersionCue file had been damaged. Repairing it got PS CS3 back up. Now I'm trying to fix a Java problem, likely a direct or indirect result of this installation and repair efforts. At least I didn't lose data. Conclusion: VirusBarrier is a much bigger threat to cripple your Mac than viruses. I can understand why this product has disappeared.

Re: Intego VirusBarrier X4
Since purchasing Intego Virusbarrier x4 10.4 for Mac OS X less than a month ago, I stopped using the product. Initially, I was very impressed with iVirusBarrier X4's ease, speed, and non-obstrusiveness (conpared to Norton's freakesh over-control).
Nevertheless, after purchasing & loading VirusBarrier X4, I always had problems verifying disk permissions. Eventually, I had to archive and reninstall all my software, because of overall poor system performance, missing links, ad-nauseam. I recently learned that virusbarrier was indeed the culprit that ultimately lead to the tedious reinstall process.
Sarah at Intego Support responded: "basically the Disk Utility is resetting the permissions to the incorrect (vulnerable) state. At this time, and until Apple addresses this security issue, you should not run repair permissions on restart."
WRONG ANSWER: But thanks for blaming Apple for Intego's interface problem.
Meanwhile, since having to reinstall all software again, I skipped over virusbarrier, and I have been in "disk permission" heaven ever since. FYI: there are no refunds. Just throwaways!

Thank you Intego! March 9, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Easy to install and it does everything it claims to do. I waited far too long to purchase this product.......researched every single virus buster program on the web before settling on the VBx4. The Virusbarrier ate up my 'macro' bugs the minute the program ran through my computer. It continues to run silently all the time and I've have never had another problem. Thank you Intego!
Quick and Stealthy January 12, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
It used to take me six plus hours to run Norton's on my Mac, running 10.4.8.
Running VirusBarrier, it is done in under an hour. There is no stopping everything
to download definitions and then restarting; it totally works in the background.
It is easy to set up and use.
